Candidates set for municipal elections
Three candidates qualified after 2:30 p.m. Tuesday for municipal elections in Maplesville.
The cut-off time to qualify in any municipality was 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Patty Crocker (District 5), Jennifer Kamerer (District 2) and Mike Bearden (incumbent in District 2) all qualified with time running out.
All four mayoral seats will be challenged, including incumbent Dearl Hilyer in Thorsby. Tara Hunt Jewell, who previously held the District 5 seat, will run against Hilyer.
Roger Marcus is running unopposed for Jewell’s seat.
Michael Mims and former councilmember Ann Baker are opposing Mayor Billy Joe Driver in Clanton; and current councilmember Faye King is opposing Mayor Eddie Reed in Jemison.
Maplesville incumbent Mayor Aubrey Latham isn’t seeking re-election. Running for his seat are John D. Caudle, Ray C. Mitchell and W.C. Hayes Jr., who was the town’s mayor before losing the 2008 election.
