“And as he went out of the temple, one of his disciple saith unto him, Master, see what manner of stones and what buildings are here! And Jesus answering said unto him, seest thou these great buildings? There shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down. And as he sat upon the mount of Olives over against the temple, Peter and James and john and Andrew asked him privately, tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled? And Jesus answering them began to say, take heed lest any man deceive you: For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows” (Mark 13:1-8).

Thought for the week: “Family Ties”

“Spend some time with your children – set time aside each day to talk with them and listen to what they have to say. Spend some time reading stories or hiking here and there, and before they go to bed, spend some time in prayer. Go on picnics in the summer and fly a kite or two, sow seeds to start a garden and see what God can do! Take in a local ballgame and root for the home team, and go fishing now and then in a nearby pond or stream. Spend some time with your children – it’s always time well spent, for one day before you know it, you’ll wonder where they went!”

Worship service at Holly Grove Baptist Church in Jemison began with praise service led by the male chorus and the senior choir in prayer, scripture and songs. Songs sung: “Pass Me Not,” “Jesus I Love To Call Your Name” and “We Will Survive.” The scripture was read by Charles Arrington with prayer by pastor Dukes. The message was given by the pastor. His theme: “Faith: How to handle a dead end.” Things don’t always go as planned. We have all come upon dead ends where we had to turn around. If you don’t, you can’t go forward. These dead ends can be job-related, in a relationship, legal or financial. How do you know a dead end? Things look hopeless. Moses came to a dead end at the Red Sea but what did he do? God took control. Abraham obeyed God and left Era. He listened to God and believed him. Focus on God, not the situation and circumstances. Remember what God can do, don’t dwell on what you can’t do. Nothing is impossible to God.

Abraham believed on God, he had faith. Recall what God has said (Romans 4:18). If he said it you can count on it, find a promise and claim it. There are 7,000 promises in God’s word. How many do you know? Don’t depend on people. God promises anywhere, don’t let the devil change your focus. God can make a way from no way. Resist the fact with faith. Don’t pretend it’s no problem, for God can change facts with faith. God always has a ram in the bush. Just trust him: hold on to faith and believe what God can do. With faith, all things are possible with God. Be wise as a serpent, but harmless as a dove. Just trust and believe in him.
