Chilton Animal Rescue, or C.A.R. will host the first ever Paws in the Park Adopt-a-Thon on Saturday, Oct. 18 at Goose Pond Park. Adopt-a-Thon hours will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Adopt-a-thon is being held to promote adoptions of animals being held at the Chilton County Humane Society.

Chilton Animal Rescue is a newly formed group created to assist the Humane Society with placing, rescuing, or fostering animals in the shelter. “We’ll be there all day with the Humane Society,” says C.A.R. president Colleen Kennedy. “We’ll each have volunteers and booths which will provide information about both organizations.

Added Kennedy, “We want everyone to feel welcome and know what services each of our organizations offer. We’re always looking for volunteers that enjoy working with and helping animals.”

“Many people don’t realize how many adoptable pets, including pure-bred dogs and puppies, that are available at the shelter,” says Paula Mattingly, the new director of the Humane Society. “Of course, we have wonderful cats and kittens that are looking for homes as well. We want the public to be aware of all of the great animals that are available and ready to come and make their homes complete.”

Several shelter animals will be available for immediate adoption at the park. A variety of activities are planned for the day, including a pet costume contest, with prizes going to the most creatively dressed animals and their owners (pets will need to be on leashes while they are in the park). Activities and games for children will also take place, and refreshments will be available.

“It’s a wonderful way to spend a Saturday during the great fall weather and possibly bring home a new member of the family,” says Kennedy.
