The Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles held 21 hearings on April 24, two of which involved Chilton County offenders.

First, James Linden Sheffield was denied parole by the board, but received a reset date of April 2029. Speakers on behalf of parole being granted were Sheffield’s mother Sheila Willis, and his grandfather Lloyd Thomsen. Tina McKenzie, the victim’s sister and aunt, Jakavian McKenzie, the victim’s nephew and cousin, and Makayla Phifer and Nayla Contreras from the Attorney General’s Office all spoke against parole being granted.

Sheffield is currently serving consecutive 17-year sentences for two charges of Manslaughter in Chilton County on Dec. 10, 2009. Currently, he has served 14 years, 11 months and 22 days of his 34-year sentence, and he has a minimum release date of April 29, 2043 unless granted parole prior to that.

Secondly, Angela Headley was granted parole by the board, but with a special condition to complete the Lovelady Center and Drug Assessment programs upon her release. Headley was serving concurrent sentences for a Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument II arrest in Chilton County on Oct. 27, 2011, for two arrests of Illegal Possession/Fraudulent Use of Credit Card and arrests for Theft of Property I and II in Montgomery County on June 11, 2010. The Chilton County sentence was a 10-year, three-month sentence, and the Montgomery sentences were 20 years. Headley served 13 years, 11 months and 29 days of her 20-year sentence upon her release.
