Maplesville High School fell 36-12 to Meek High School on the road on Aug. 19 in the Red Devils 2022 season opener.

Maplesville jumped out in front as Jakavian Jackson scampered 49 yards for a touchdown just before the end of the first quarter to make it 6-0 after the failed point after attempt.

The Red Devils lead was short lived as Meek punched in two rushing touchdowns on two consecutive drives in the second quarter to take a 14-6 lead.

Not to be outdone, Jackson punched in a one-yard touchdown run that cut the Meek lead down to 14-12. Jackson ran for 136 yards on nine carries and two scores.

The Tigers added another rushing touchdown on their next drive bringing the score to 22-12 at halftime. Meek posted 439 rushing yards in the game.

In the second half, Meek continued its ground and pound. With the score still 22-12 entering the fourth quarter, Meek converted two more rushing touchdowns in the quarter to stifle any Maplesville comeback bid.

Maplesville quarterback Troy McMillian went 8-for-17 passing for 76 yards. Evan Harrison was McMillian’s favorite target hauling in five catches for 45 yards. Bradlee Padgett led the Red Devils defense with 13.5 tackles followed by Coleman Gill with nine.

Maplesville (0-1) will travel across town to face Isabella High School while Meek (1-0) will travel to Hackleburg High School.
