Michaela Bailey was chosen to represent Jemison High School at the 2016 session of American Legion Auxiliary Alabama Girls State, held on the campus of the University of Alabama.

For one week, she became a citizen of an imaginary state, taking part in the political life of her community, primarily through campaigning for and electing city, county, and state offices.

She learned the operation of government by participating in the party caucuses and through the election process. Well-known speakers and other state, county, and city officials visited and enlightened the young women on their civic responsibilities.

Michaela campaigned for the office of Commissioner of Agriculture and Industry.

Michaela will speak to her sponsoring organization, The Kiwanis Club, and to other organizations upon invitation, about her experiences at American Legion Auxiliary Alabama Girls State.

Michaela is the daughter of Michael and Desiree Bailey. She is the granddaughter of Billy and Geane Woodfin of Coosa County, and Bill and Janette Bailey of Jemison.

Michaela was selected to attend the American Legion Auxiliary’s Girl State because of her outstanding leadership.

Sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary, Alabama Girls State is a laboratory of practical government, and a personal application of the duties, responsibilities and privileges of being an American.

In her high school and local community, Bailey is also involved with Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Beta Club, Key Club, Student Government Association, FCCLA, as well being a majorette and a captain in Jemison High School Blue Regiment Band. She is a member at Jemison First Baptist Church where she is involved with the Impact Youth Ministries and Youth Choir. She loves volunteering with local dance studio Donna’s Dancers and Tammie’s Twirlers.

Michaela would like to thank Jemison High School for giving her this opportunity to be their representative and for The Kiwanis Club for sponsoring her. She appreciates the support from family and friends for all the calls, emails, texts, and cards sent to her during her time at Girl State.
