A single-vehicle wreck on Interstate 65 resulted in critical injuries to a passenger and an ongoing investigation.

The wreck occurred at about 9:20 a.m. April 15 near the Pinedale Road/Airport Road interstate overpass, according to Clanton Police Capt. Neil Fetner.

The vehicle was traveling south and apparently veered off the right side of the road.

According to witnesses, the vehicle was temporarily airborne and rolled before coming to rest on its roof, Fetner said.

Both the driver and passenger sustained injuries, though the passenger’s injuries were described as critical, and the passenger remains hospitalized.

The wreck victims were from Prattville.

Fetner said a passing motorist who witnessed the wreck stopped to check on the victims.

Finding the passenger unresponsive, the motorist began rescue operations, including CPR.

The passenger was transported to UAB Hospital, while the driver was taken to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery.

Fetner said the incident is being investigated by CPD’s Traffic Homicide Unit because of uncertainty about the condition of the passenger.

Criminal charges, if warranted, would be filed within 30 days of the wreck.
