County basketball teams in area tournaments

County high school basketball teams are in the midst of area tournaments, scheduled for Feb. 2-7. Here is a recap of the progress of the teams.

Girls

Chilton County
Selma rode Jamya Smith’s hot hand to the AHSAA Class 6A, Area 6 championship game Wednesday.
Smith hit five three-pointers as part of a 17-point night to lead the Lady Saints to a 64-30 win over Chilton County.
Selma turned Chilton County turnovers into easy baskets the entire game. The Lady Saints led 23-11 after one quarter, with Smith leading the way with 11 points.
Selma had a commanding 37-17 advantage at the half and led 57-24 after three quarters, taking the 64-30 win.
Lexis Blackmon led Chilton County with 12 points.

Isabella
The Mustangs took on Billingsley on Feb. 3, with Isabella taking home a 45-38 win. The win moves the Mustangs to the area tournament finals against host Autaugaville on Friday, while the loss ended the Bears season.

Jemison
The Panthers fell to Central-Tuscaloosa in the first round of the Class 5A, Area 7 tournament on Feb. 2. India Satterfield led the team with six points. It was the final contest for the Panthers, as they were eliminated from postseason play with the loss.

Maplesville
The Red Devils fell in the first round of the Class 1A, Area 6 tournament on Feb. 3, 73-34. With the loss, the squad is eliminated from postseason play

Thorsby
The Rebels earned a bye in the first round of the Class 2A, Area 9 tournament, and will host Vincent High at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

Verbena
The Verbena Red Devils fell to Notasulga, 67-15, in first round of the Class 1A, Area 7 tournament on Wednesday. A loss in the area tournament ended the season for the Red Devils.

Boys

Chilton County
The Tigers were scheduled to play Paul Bryant in the first round of the Class 6A, Area 6 tournament. The game ended too late to be included in this edition of the Clanton Advertiser.

Isabella
The Mustangs season came to an end with a 72-43 loss to Autaugaville in the Class 1A, Area 6 tournament.

Jemison
The Panthers came up short in the first round of the Class 5A, Area 7 tournament, falling to Central-Tuscaloosa, 57-38. The loss eliminated the Panthers from postseason play.

Maplesville
THe Red Devils moved on to the Class 1A, Area 6 finals with a 62-58 win over Billingsley on Feb. 3. The Red Devils will face Autaugaville in the finals on Friday, while the Bears season came to a close with the loss.

Thorsby
The Rebels took on Fayetteville in the opening round of the Class 2A, Area 9 tournament, winning 60-42. Christian Fortner led the team with 15 points and eight rebounds, Brock Higgins had 12 points and five rebounds, Gray Bice had 11 points and Bailey Sellers had 10 points and eight rebounds. The win secured the squad a spot in the tournament finals against Vincent on Thursday. The game ended too late to be included in this edition of the Clanton Advertiser.

Verbena
The Red Devils were scheduled to play Loachapoka on Thursday in the Class 1A, Area 7. The game ended too late to be included in this edition of the Clanton Advertiser.
