The $1 million bond for a former Chilton County sheriff’s deputy and teacher facing charges related to sexual and other misconduct with underage students has been slightly reduced.

Chilton County Circuit Judge Ben A. Fuller on Thursday morning reduced the bond to $881,000 for David Hubbard, 40, whose case was waived Wednesday morning to a grand jury.

The bond was reduced based on 37 charged offenses, broken down into monetary amounts for each felony classification, according to Fuller’s order.

For each of the eight Class A felonies, the bond is set at $50,000, the 20 Class B felonies have a bond set at $20,000, for each of the eight Class C felonies the bond is set at $10,000, and the misdemeanor offense has a bond set at $1,000.

Prior to being released on the $881,000 bond, Fuller’s order states that prosecutors will approve an electronic monitoring plan for Hubbard and be required to file the plan, and have it approved with the court.

A bond reduction hearing was held Wednesday morning where Hubbard’s legal representation requested Fuller reduce Hubbard’s bond.

Hubbard’s lawyer told Fuller that Hubbard was unable to make his bond.

Prosecutors from the 19th Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office told Fuller they were opposed to any reduction in the bond due to several factors including the fact Hubbard could be a danger to the community and himself.

Hubbard, and his wife, Rebecca Hubbard, 35, were arrested July 29 on 87 charges related to sexual and other misconduct with underage students.

As of Thursday afternoon, Hubbard had not made bond from the Chilton County Jail.
