M.G. Smith, 88, of Lawley, passed away on Oct. 10 at Col. Robert L. Howard State Veterans Home in Pell City.

He was born on April 2, 1925 in Tuscaloosa, the son of the late Messer Smith and the late Zula Wright.

He worked for the highway department.

He is survived by his sons, Michael Smith (Teresa) of Chrestview, Fla., Larry Smith (Rhonda) of Blountsville, Steve Smith (Mary) of Toccoa, Ga.; three brothers, Hudson Smith of Maplesville, Curtis Smith of Maplesville, Odis Smith of McCollia; sister, Dorothy Lenior of Phenix City.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Verna Low Legrone Smith.

Friends will be received from 6-8 on Oct. 11 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel.

Services will be held on Oct. 12 at 1 p.m. at Martin Chapel with the Rev. Robert Gibson and the Rev. Tony Reynolds officiating.

Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Maplesville.
