The company that owns the property and equipment at Chilton Medical Center announced Thursday it has entered into an agreement that could lead to the re-opening of the hospital on a trial basis and possibly the purchase of the property by the Chilton County Hospital Board.

SunLink Health Systems Inc. announced the agreement. A subsidiary of SunLink, Central Alabama Medical Associates LLC, owns the hospital property.

The hospital has been closed since Oct. 29.

Representatives of the hospital board couldn’t immediately be reached for comment, though The Clanton Advertiser previously reported a verbal agreement had been in place and a formal agreement has been considered forthcoming.

Under the agreement, the board would have a 90-day option to acquire the property for $1.5 million, according to the release.

The board and CAMA applied jointly for a court-appointed receiver to take over the operations of the hospital.

“If the board is able to re-establish the hospital’s operations to their satisfaction, it has indicated it intends to exercise the option to acquire the property from CAMA,” the release states. “However, there can be no assurance the hospital will be re-opened or that the option will be exercised.”
