Three local volleyball teams will compete in super regional tournaments Friday in Montgomery—with a chance to earn a berth in the Elite 8 state tournament on the line.

Jemison will play Charles Henderson at 4:15 p.m. in the Class 4A South Super Regional tournament.

If they win their first-round match, the Panthers would play the winner of the Carbon Hill-St. James match, at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.

A loss would end the season for JHS.

Jemison advanced to the super regional round by finishing second in its area tournament on Oct. 18 at Calera.

The Panthers defeated West Blocton, 3-1 (18-25, 25-8, 25-19, 25-17), but lost to tournament host Calera in the area championship match, 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-22).

Lauren Crosby had four digs and five kills in the first match, Denten Ellison had five digs and five kills, Barbara Garrett had seven digs and three kills, Lauren Price had nine digs and 15 assists.

In the second match, Haley Smitherman had seven digs and eight aces; Crosby had five digs and six kills; Ellison had five digs, four aces and eight kills; Garrett had four digs and six kills; and Price had five digs and 15 assists.

Maplesville will begin the day Friday for local teams, playing St. Luke’s at 9 a.m. in the Class 1A South Super Regional.

A first-round win would earn the Red Devils a contest against the Donoho-Pleasant Home winner at 10:30 a.m. Saturday

Billingsley will compete in the same bracket as Maplesville.

The Bears face off against Fruitdale at 11:30 a.m. Win, and BHS will face the Kinston-Sacred Heart winner at 9 a.m. Saturday.
