Chilton County area high school softball teams wrapped up their regular seasons the week of April 19-25, and will now turn their sights to their respective area tournaments from April 26-29.

 

Isabella High School

The Mustangs had a light final week with just one game, a 7-6 win over Jemison High School on April 22. Down 4-0 after the first inning, three runs in the third and fourth innings each thrusted Isabella in front 6-4 before Jemison tied it again at six runs. After Ashley Wells led off the top of the fifth inning with a triple, Jeslyn Wilson plated the winning run with a sacrifice fly. Wells was 2-for-4 with a double, triple and RBI, and Anna Johnson was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Blair Underwood added an RBI.

 

Maplesville High School

The Red Devils played three games at Prattville Christian Academy on April 20 against three teams in a higher classification going 0-3. Maplesville dropped game one to the host school PCA 13-2, but Jaden McGee was 3-for-3 with a double, triple and RBI, followed by Kamylia Talley going 2-for-3 and Mollie Kayte Smith adding an RBI.

Maplesville took on T.R. Miller High School in game two and lost 12-4, taking a 3-2 lead after being down 2-0 with three runs in the bottom of the second inning after an RBI single from Kenlee Swanson and a two-RBI double from Makenzie Williams. After the game was tied by T.R. Miller, and Maplesville retook the lead in the third inning with a Grace Williams RBI double, but the last nine runs of the game were scored by T.R. Miller. Grace Williams was 3-for-4, and Hannah Crowe was 3-for-3. Kennedy Reed and McGee each had two hits.

The Red Devils ended its night falling to Handley High School 4-0 as Makenzie Williams, Hand, Reed and Smith all posted singles. Reed and Smith combined for seven innings with 10 hits, four runs (three earned) and five strikeouts.

Maplesville got back in the win column its last two games of the week, starting with a 22-2 rout of Montevallo High School on April 23 in five innings after building a huge 14-0 lead after the fourth inning. Crowe, Reed and Smith all had three hits each, and Smith’s six RBIs led the team. Reed and Smith combined in the circle again for five innings, four hits, two runs (both unearned) and eight strikeouts.

They followed that win up with a 11-1 triumph in its final regular season game against Shelby County High School on April 25l. After falling behind 1-0 following the opening inning, the Red Devils scored 11 unanswered runs and outhit them 11-2 to win the game. McGee and Smith were each 3-for-4 with Smith knocking two doubles and notching four RBIs. Grace Williams, Hand and Reed each had an RBI, and Smith threw a complete game with five innings, two hits, one run and four strikeouts.

 

Verbena High School

The Red Devils were among the teams with a light final week with its only action coming in a 11-1 win over Dallas County High School in five innings on April 22. Verbena built a 7-0 lead after their first trip to the plate and cruised the rest of the way. Jaycee Quinn went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate with a double, home run and three RBIs, joined by Maya Schuffert and Jasmin Moates with three RBIs as well. Quinn also controlled the circle throwing five innings with two hits, one unearned run and 14 strikeouts.

 

Billingsley High School

The Bears’ doubleheader against Montevallo High School on April 25 finished their regular season up, sweeping the two games starting with a 19-2 win in game one in five innings. Billingsley built a 11-0 after three innings, and Caydin Hornady and Amber Johnson each had three hits to lead the team. Sadie Primm was 2-for-5 with a double, an inside-the-park home run and five RBIs, and Mallory Shanholtzer and Claire Season had three RBIs each. Kaliyah McCary threw a complete five innings with five hits, two runs and three strikeouts.

Billingsley led game two 3-2 entering the fourth frame, and four runs in the inning opened the game up to a 7-3 win. Ada Willis and Hornady each had RBI singles, and Alana Jones had an RBI double in the big inning. Willis was 3-for-3, and Hornady, Jones and Seamon had two base hits each. Willis and Primm combined to throw seven innings with eight hits, three runs (two earned) and five strikeouts.

 

Chilton County High School

The Tigers got three games in on April 19 going 1-2 across the three. The first, a 7-2 loss to Holtville High School after they opened the game up with six runs in the third inning. Emma Penley was 2-for-2, and Mallie Harrison and Tyeshia Williams each posted an RBI.

Wetumpka High School knocked off CCHS in game two, 2-0, with two runs in the first inning as Brianna Goggins and Anna Cate Burnett each singled, and Williams knocked a double. Lily Benson threw a complete six innings with six hits, two runs and four strikeouts.

CCHS ended its three-game night with a 14-1 win against LAMP High School in three innings, outhitting them 12-2 in the process. Eight of the nine starters for the Tigers recorded a hit, and eight of the nine had an RBI. Williams led the way crushing a grand slam, and Ishunti Brown, Goggins and Harrison had two RBIs each.

The Tigers carried the momentum into April 22 taking down Prattville High School 5-3 after building a 4-0 lead after three innings. Every starter recorded a hit for CCHS, and it was led by Harrison going 2-for-3 with two home runs and four RBIs. Brewer, Burnett, Goggins and Penley each had a double as well.

CCHS ended its week with a 15-1 win over Jemison High School in four innings after trailing 1-0 in the first inning. Every starter had an RBI, and Macey Pierce was 3-for-4 with two triples, a home run and three RBIs to lead the team. Harrison and Williams each launched a home run as well, and Brewer, Brown and Williams had two RBIs each. Benson threw a solid game in the circle going four innings with seven hits, one run and two strikeouts.

 

Thorsby High School

The Rebels had a two-game week in preparation for the postseason, starting on April 22 traveling to Prattville Christian Academy and falling 4-1. Down 3-0 in the sixth inning, Braelyn Whitfield knocked a double that scored a run for the Rebels. Brinley Giambrone posted a multi-hit game with a 2-for-3 effort. Makinley Turner threw all six innings surrendering three hits and four runs (one earned) with eight strikeouts.

The Rebels played an old-fashioned pitchers duel the following day against Shelby County High School playing to a 0-0 tie after nine complete innings. The game saw five total hits with Thorsby getting four of them — Brooklyn Reeser going 2-for-3, and Allie Reeser and Addison Wood posting singles. Turner rounded into stellar form the last game of the regular season throwing eight and one-third innings with one hit and striking out 19 of the 26 batters she faced.

 

Jemison High School

In the Panthers’ loss to CCHS on April 23, Abby Pate gave Jemison the lead 1-0 in the first inning with an RBI single after Gracie Conway and Trinity Bean both singled to start the game. Bean was 2-for-3, and Hannah Popwell and Alyssa Hayes added singles to the hit total.

Jemison dropped a game 7-6 to in-county rival Isabella High School on April 22 prior to the CCHS game. The Panthers built a 4-0 lead after a huge opening inning, but the game was tied at six runs after four innings, and Isabella pushed across the winning run in the fifth inning. Braelyn Bradford knocked a two-run home run in the first inning, and Bean and Pate were each 2-for-4. Pate had two RBIs, and Conway and Popwell each had an RBI.
