Regular season ends, playoffs begin for Chilton baseball

The 2024 Chilton County high school baseball season came to an end this week as all seven area schools completed their regular seasons. Three of the teams moved on to the state playoffs winning or finishing runners-up in their area, and the other four will move into the offseason hoping to play deeper into April next season.

Thorsby High School

Thorsby High School finished its regular season on a six-game winning streak, and winning 16 of its last 18 games. The Rebels took the season series over in-county rival Isabella High School in their final AHSAA Class 2A Area 6 series. Rain moved game one to April 12 with Thorsby winning 16-2 with 15 hits as a team, and six of the nine starters in the lineup recording multiple hits. Grayson McManus and J.T. Green both had three RBIs each, and Malachi Allgood had four RBIs. Christopher Buendtner, Braylon Carroll and Patrick Prady combined for 11 strikeouts on the mound.

In game two the following day, Thorsby shutdown the Mustangs 12-0 in five innings behind four innings of two-hit baseball from Aiden Seeley. McManus was 3-for-3 and a home run shy of the cycle with three RBIs, and Max Burnett and Green had two RBIs each.

The Rebels took down Billingsley High School 9-2 on April 15 with Seeley’s 3-for-3 effort leading the way. McManus had two RBIs, and Green smashed a grand slam.

Thorsby ended its regular season on April 16 with a 12-9 win over Montevallo High School. Burnett and Green had three RBIs each.

AHSAA Class 2A State Baseball Playoffs Round 1

April 19 at Bayshore Christian School

Game 1 at 1 p.m.

Game 2 at 3:30 p.m.

Game 3, April 20 at noon (if needed)

 

Maplesville High School

Maplesville High School ended its regular season splitting the final week of the regular season. The Red Devils earned home-field advantage in the first round of the AHSAA Class 1A state baseball playoffs on April 12 winning 6-2 over Billingsley. Jake Carlee led the way at the plate with a 3-for-3 game with a double and two RBIs. Aiden Abbott and Bradlee Padgett combined to toss seven innings surrendering three hits and two runs (both unearned) with five strikeouts. Padgett also contributed 2-for-4 with two RBIs at the plate, and James Jones had an RBI triple.

The Red Devils were tripped up in their regular season finale against Prattville Christian Academy 8-3. Carlee was 2-for-3, and Braden Atcheson, Luke Gray and Abbott had an RBI each.

 AHSAA Class 1A State Baseball Playoffs Round 1

April 19 vs. Millry High School

Game 1: 4 p.m.

Game 2: 6:30 p.m.

Game 3: April 20 at 1 p.m. (if needed)

 

Billingsley High School

Billingsley High School earned a playoff spot capturing runner-up in AHSAA Class 1A Area 6. In the Bears 6-2 loss to Maplesville on April 12, Nathan Gilmore, Landon Jones, Mason Truesdale, Eli Manning and Hudson Manning all recorded singles. Kyle Boice and Jones combined to strike out 10 hitters on the mound, five each.

Jones and Gilmore collected singles in Billingsley’s 9-2 loss to Thorsby on April 15, and the Bears dropped their season finale 10-3 to Prattville Christian on April 16 as well. Turner Motley and Jones each had a double and RBI, and Gilmore added an RBI.

AHSAA Class 1A State Baseball Playoffs Round 1

April 19 at Leroy High School

Game 1: 4 p.m.

Game 2: 6:30 p.m.

Game 3: April 20 at noon (if needed)

 

Isabella High School

Isabella High School dropped the series with Thorsby on April 12-13 as Colton Conway had a double in game one, and Richard Henderson, Tyler Mims and Levi Wilkins had singles in game two.

However, the Mustangs rattled off three wins to end their season, starting with a doubleheader sweep over B.B. Comer High School on April 15. The Mustangs controlled game one to win 12-1 in five innings behind Austin Porter’s five innings, two hits, one run and six strikeouts. He was also 4-for-4 with a double and two RBIs at the plate. Alex Henderson and Conway each had two RBIs. Game two saw Isabella win 12-9 with 11 hits as a team. Eli Boatwright, Aiden Gray, Conway and Mims all had two RBIs each.

Isabella concluded its season with a 7-5 win over Verbena High School on April 16. The Mustangs exploded for all seven runs in the first inning and held on late for the win. Boatwright was 2-for-5 to lead the way.

 

Verbena High School

Verbena High School’s Lance Edwards, Ethan Hand and Caleb Short had two hits each against Isabella in their 7-5 defeat. The day before, the Red Devils got the win 7-6 over JAG High School with Chris Guzman tossing a complete game of seven innings with five hits, six runs (four earned) and nine strikeouts. He was also 2-for-4 at the plate, joining Short, and added an RBI. Greyson Deavers and Jaxson Kelley each had a double and two RBIs.

 

Chilton County High School

Chilton County High School dropped its final AHSAA Class 6A Area 5 game of the season on April 12, 7-0 to Helena High School. Colton Brock was 2-for-3 with a double and collected two of the three hits in the game for CCHS. Kepler Lively’s single was the other hit.

Trinity Presbyterian School took down the Tigers 8-2 on April 15 in their regular season finale. The Tigers took a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth inning when Eli Dale knocked an RBI single. However, seven runs in the bottom half of the inning pushed the game out of reach. Dale was 2-for-3 with the RBI, and Josh Parker had a single.

 

Jemison High School

Jemison High School dropped both games of a home and home series to Calera High School on April 15-16. Daniel Flores was 2-for-3 to lead the way in game one, and Trent Gaines and Hunter Scott each had singles, and Gaines added an RBI.
