The Alabama High School Athletic Association announced the new alignments for its winter sports from 2024-2026 in March, with a few Chilton County high schools switching areas.

Boys and girls basketball are the only sanctioned sports by Chilton County high schools in the winter, and six out of the seven area high schools will have a new area or a new set of area opponents come the 2024-2025 season.

Chilton County High School was the only school to retain its classification, area and area opponents from the 2022-2024 alignment, sharing AHSAA Class 6A Area 5 with Benjamin Russell and Calera high schools.

Jemison High School remained in Class 5A, but was moved from Area 5 to Area 8 and will be joined by Demopolis, Montevallo and Selma high schools.

Thorsby High School is getting a completely new structure, moving up from Class 2A to 3A. The Rebels will compete in Class 3A Area 5 during its basketball seasons with Alabama Christian Academy, Saint James School, The Montgomery Academy and Dallas County High School.

Isabella High School will stay in Class 2A Area 7, but with a completely different cast of opponents — Aliceville and Greene County high schools and Tuscaloosa Academy.

In Class 1A, the three Chilton County area schools of Billingsley, Maplesville and Verbena high schools who resided in the same Class 1A Area 7 will be broken up in 2024-2026. Maplesville and Billingsley stay in Area 7 with newcomers Breakthrough Charter School, Ellwood Christian School and Francis Marion High School joining them in the five-team area. Verbena moves out of Area 7 to Area 6 with Autaugaville, Fayetteville and Notasulga high schools and Autauga Academy.

The new winter alignments will begin when the 2024-2025 winter seasons begin in November, and the complete alignments can be found at www.ahsaa.com/Schools/2024-2026-Classification-Alignments.
