The City of Clanton announced the upcoming transition to its new utility billing and payment system in a press release on March 11. The new system will offer updated technology that is prepared to make the payment process as easy and as simple as it can be for residents.

“For more than 25 years, the City of Clanton has used the same billing system, so we are very excited to begin using our new billing and payment system full-time,” Clanton Mayor Jeff Mims said in the March 11 press release. “Our utilities and operations staff have worked extremely hard to bring customers a more convenient and simple way to manage and pay bills through our new payment portal.”

As the new system is implemented, residents may see some slight differences in the next few bills. March will be the first billing cycle with the new billing format, and the cycle in March will be shorter, so residents are advised to expect a lower bill than normal. However, the April billing cycle will be longer, and residents are advised to expect a slightly higher bill then. The May billing cycle, and cycles moving forward after May, will reflect a normal billing cycle.

The billing due date of the fifth of each month will not change with the new system coming in, and no action is required for residents who currently autopay through their banking accounts, although transaction information may look different on their respective statements.

All customers will receive a new account number for the new payment portal, and the number will be needed to make payments on the portal.

“Our customers are our top priority, and we thank you for your patience as we implement our all-new billing and payment system,” the press release concluded.

The City of Clanton will release more information on the new billing system as it becomes available, and all updates can be found at www.clanton.gov.
