Chilton County High School’s varsity girl’s basketball team won its second consecutive AHSAA Class 6A Area 5 tournament championship on Feb. 6 taking down Benjamin Russell High School 48-33.

After a slow start and trailing 9-2 early, CCHS ended the first quarter on a 5-0 run. The Tigers carried that into the next quarter to run it up to a 15-0 run and take a 17-9 lead. CCHS led by double digits at halftime and managed the lead the rest of the way to claim the area tournament title.

“The girls really wanted to get the area championship and it feels great, but we want the next game,” Chilton County head coach Rickey Pulliam said. “The area championship was a good game for us to knock one of our goals down, but our main goal this year is to win the (sub-regional), and that is what we are playing for.”

Iasia Anderson led the Tigers with 23 points on 9-for-12 shooting, and added 11 steals and eight assists to her totals. Anderson captured her second consecutive AHSAA Class 6A Area 5 tournament MVP following her championship game performance.

Ishunti Brown was the other Tiger in double figures with 11 points, and had a double-double with 14 rebounds. Tyeshia Williams led CCHS in rebounding with 18.

Anderson, Brown and Williams were all named to the AHSAA Class 6A Area 5 All-Tournament Team as well.

CCHS will host Hueytown High School on Feb 9 at 6 p.m. in the sub-regional round.
