Clanton Middle School eighth grade teacher Selena Price and her three classes recently put together research projects called “Holidays Around the World” that introduced them to different parts of the world.

Price’s three English Language Arts classes at CMS were randomly assigned a country from a digital wheel that listed every country in the world. From there, students researched what holiday is most celebrated in their respective countries, and then compiled information on foods, decorations, traditions and music associated with that holiday’s celebrations. The students also included general information about the country’s location, language, flag and traditional clothing, and had the opportunity to prepare a recipe from their country to share with the class and earn bonus points.

“Their minds and palates expanded as they gained new insights into how even the familiar, like Christmas trees and chocolate, can be used in other countries in completely new and exciting ways,” Price said.

The students put their research project on tri-fold boards and presented them to their classes.
