While Chilton County has four municipalities, the county has five well known cities when Verbena is added to the conversation. While the city is not incorporated, there are individuals who are looking to change that.

Howard Smith, a resident of Verbena, has recently been going door to door in his city to see if there are enough people to become an incorporated city.

“Over the last few months, a group of people in the Verbena area studied the possibility of incorporating it as a town,” Smith said in a press release. “We researched the process, studied maps, talked with county officials, met and talked with residents and property owners and sought advice from leaders of incorporation efforts in other areas.”

After his research, Smith found out that in order for a town to be incorporated a population of 300 is required. Smith’s research found that there are around 200 residents in Verbena at the moment. Perhaps in the future there will be a population growth in Verbena from a subdivision being built or another influx, but until then, Verbena’s journey to incorporation is still ongoing.
