Isabella goes perfect, other schools pick up wins during week’s action

Isabella, Billingsley and Maplesville high schools were among the varsity girl’s basketball teams in the Chilton County area who picked up wins during the week of Dec. 8-14.
The Mustangs won both of their games during the week, starting with a 38-31 win over Billingsley on Dec. 11. Isabella followed that up the next day with a 77-2 win over Verbena High School, the Red Devils only game of the week.
Maplesville was 2-1 during the week, beginning with two wins on Dec 11 and 12. The Red Devils won 52-45 over Loachapoka High School first, then defeated Dallas County High School 58-36 the next day. Maplesville’s week ended on Dec. 14 with a 44-32 loss to Billingsley.
The Bears had a successful week pairing the Maplesville win with another earlier in the week. Against Maplesville, Alana Jones led the way with 14 points and 19 rebounds, and Derrica Motley had 10 points, six rebounds and five assists. Kaliyah McCary added six points and rebounds.
Billingsley’s other win during the week came on Dec. 12 against Class 5A Holtville High School, winning 40-38. Motley led the Bears in scoring with 16 points and added six rebounds. Megan Chandler had 10 points, nine rebounds and four steals, and Jones added nine points, 15 rebounds and six steals.
The Bears loss came to Isabella that began their week on Dec. 11, and Jones had 14 points and 16 rebounds and Motley had 10 points.
Chilton County High School’s week started on a positive note with a 63-42 win over Wetumpka High School. The Tigers led 25-14 at halftime and cruised in the second half. Iasia Anderson led the way with 20 points, 11 steals, 10 assists and nine rebounds, followed by Ishunti Brown with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Ivyonna Varner added 12 points, four steals and four rebounds.
The Tigers slipped up on Dec. 14 against Pike Road High School falling 67-47. Brown had 17 points to lead all Tiger scorers and 14 rebounds, followed by Anderson with 10 points, 10 steals and 10 assists. Varner had 11 points and five steals.
Thorsby High School was 1-2 during the week picking up a 45-33 win over Holtville on Dec. 11. The Rebels fell 45-40 to Elmore County High School on Dec. 8, and 49-26 to Alabama Christian Academy on Dec. 14.
Jemison High School’s win during the week came on Dec. 12 over Shelby County High School 51-35.
