The Town of Maplesville held its largest yearly event on Dec. 10 hosting its sixth annual Maplesville Old Fashioned Christmas in downtown. The yearly event that is held on the first Sunday in December was moved to the second Sunday after inclement weather on Dec. 3.

While thousands still poured into the streets to enjoy the free holiday event, the numbers were slightly smaller than the previous year. Event director Karen Ford said she believed the postponement, as well as the dreary weather on the morning of Dec. 10, led to the slightly smaller number of attendees this year.

However, she has heard nothing but positive things following the event.

“I have heard lots of wonderful comments on our Santa this year,” Ford said. “Everybody seems to always enjoy Valle Grande’s food, which was a highlight for everyone. It turned out to be a beautiful day, and I have heard no complaints.”

Vendors, music, a kid’s area, horse-drawn carriage rides, pony rides, photo opportunities and free food and drinks were all a part of the festivities with Old Fashioned Christmas this year. Many businesses and vendors brought food to handout to visitors, and Valle Grande Mexican Grill in downtown Maplesville cooked over 1,000 pounds of chicken to serve grilled chicken nachos with cheese throughout the event at no charge.
