Numerous members of the Thorsby and Isabella high school football teams were selected to the Class 2A Region 4 All-Region Team following the 2023 season. The team is selected by the coaches in the region, and not every region in the state selects a team.

After the tallies and nominations were counted, Thorsby head coach Daryl Davis was selected as the coach of the year for the region after leading the Rebels to a 9-3 record, and 8-2 in the regular season, his best season since going 9-1 in the regular season in 2018. Davis also surpassed the 50-win mark in 2023 at Thorsby in just his seventh season at the school.

“That is attributed to all our coaches, and yes I am the head coach, but it is not just me and our guys do a great job,” Davis said. “It is good to get that recognition because it is not just me getting it, and it reflects upon our team as well. We had a good group of kids that made it too.”

On the team, Thorsby had five players named to the Class 2A Region 4 team — senior offensive lineman Ryne Jones, senior wide receiver and defensive back Coden Cummings, senior defensive lineman Braden Chapman, junior linebacker Malachi Allgood and junior athlete Grayson McManus.

N’Ky Nunn, Nate Thomas and Carson Church were named honorable mentions on the team as well.

“It was good just seeing the guys buy into what we were asking them to do and working hard each week, and taking it day by day, and week by week,” Davis said. “They did not have us picked to make the playoffs (in the preseason), they had us fifth or sixth in the region and that was some motivation in the beginning of the year. To be able to finish second was huge for our kids.”

Thorsby advanced to the second round of the state playoffs for just the third time since 2003.

Fellow Chilton County program and region rival Isabella featured four players on the All-Region Team — senior quarterback Eli Kendrick, senior wide receiver and defensive back Dre’Von Lee, senior defensive lineman Jotavius Smith and senior linebacker Dawson Edwards. Owen Littleton, Noah McMinn and Tyler Mims were named honorable mentions on the team by the coaches.

Isabella and Thorsby combined to fill six of the 11 defensive positions on the Class 2A Region 4 All-Region Team.
