An all-star team representing the YMCA of Chilton County’s fall soccer league put together a great showing at the Hoover Invitational Soccer Tournament from Nov. 3-5. The AYSO Region 1642 team, under the American Youth Soccer Organization banner, was the 10U all-star team constructed by the league for the one-off tournament to end their season.

The team was made up of 12 players who were recommended by their coaches from the four teams in the YMCA’s 10U fall soccer league. The players, ages eight to 10, were pulled together for only four practices and no prior games together before the tournament to face seven other teams who had been together for a majority of the fall season.

“It was pretty good, and it was also a challenge because we had never played together and it was fun,” player Myles Kelley said.

The team won its first game of the Hoover Invitational 10-2, and followed that up in game two with a 6-2 win. However, the team fell 3-2 in its third game to come up one game shy of the tournament finals.

“We are very proud of our boys for playing as tough as they did, and they played excellent soccer, especially considering these boys had never played together as a team,” head coach Meghan Kelley said. “They went out there and cooperated with one another, showed great sportsmanship, excellent skills and they did a great job. Very proud of them.”

The team does not have anything else planned at the moment, but Meghan Kelley left the option open of getting the team back together in the spring.
