Maplesville High School fell 44-7 to John Carroll Catholic High School in its final regular season game of 2023 on Nov. 3. The Red Devils had 156 rushing yards and Bryson Pickle got into the end zone from 15 yards out for the lone score in the game for Maplesville.

“Our kids did not play a great first half, but they did not quit and came out in the second half and settled down a little bit,” Maplesville head coach Brad Abbott said. “We learned some good things about them as far as their perseverance, and their ability to fight regardless of what the score is.”

Tackling and the inability to complete passes were the two things that hindered the Red Devils the most in the game. However, Abbott was pleased with the special teams play from his team, seeing more pressure on those types of plays against Class 5A John Carroll than the Class 1A teams in their classification.

Maplesville ends its regular season at 6-4, and now turns its attention to Nov. 9 and its AHSAA Class 1A state playoff first-round matchup hosting Choctaw County High School.
