Thorsby High School’s Coden Cummings is this week’s athlete of the week after his performance against Vincent High School on Oct. 27. Cummings was a huge boost on both sides of the ball for the Rebels.

On offense, the senior led Thorsby’s committee of running backs with 149 yards on eight carries, an 18.6 yards per carry average. He punched in two long touchdown runs on the ground, one in each half, to help Thorsby build a 29-0 lead in the game that they were able to manage to the end.

Cummings contributed on defense as well, piling up eight tackles and grabbing two of the three interceptions forced by the Rebels, one of which he returned 60 yards for a touchdown in the first half.

Cummings 149 yards was his second highest output of the season, and the game was his fourth with at least two rushing touchdowns. He doubled his season interception total from two to four as well.

Honorable mention: Logan Coppedge, Chilton County High School

Chilton County High School sophomore quarterback Logan Coppedge has shown improvement throughout his first season as the Tigers starter, and it culminated on Oct. 27 against Pelham High School. Coppedge posted a season-high in passing yards and touchdowns with 303 and four, respectively, in Chilton County’s final AHSAA Class 6A Region 3 game of the season.

His 14-for-20 passing effort earned him a 70% completion percentage, his third game above 70% this season.

Honorable mention: Bradlee Padgett, Maplesville High School

While Maplesville High School is a run-heavy offense, senior quarterback Bradlee Padgett has remained ready when his number is called to make a play through the air. Against Verbena High School on Oct. 27, he was nearly perfect going 7-for-8 passing for 158 yards and a touchdown.
