Isabella High School secured the third seed in AHSAA Class 2A Region 4 with a 55-14 win over Woodland High School on Oct. 27.

“We played well and handled a long road game the proper way, and I was proud of our guys for that,” Isabella head coach Tate Leonard said.

Mustangs’ quarterback Eli Kendrick found Dre’Von Lee for a nine-yard touchdown pass, and Braxton Mims ripped off a 67-yard touchdown run to put Isabella up 14-0 after the first quarter.

Isabella exploded in the second half, starting with a 48-yard touchdown run by Kendrick, followed by his second touchdown toss to Lee to extend the lead to 28-0.

Lee caught four balls for 81 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Mustangs’ receiving corps.

Kendrick’s final touchdown toss came later in the second quarter finding Dawson Edwards for a 53-yard touchdown for his only catch of the game.

Kendrick was 9-for-15 passing for 168 yards with three touchdowns and one interception.

Jediah Works closed the book on a dominating first half for Isabella with a 30-yard touchdown scamper just before halftime to make it 41-0 at the intermission.

The Mustangs piled up 329 rushing yards in the win and five touchdowns. Levi Wilkins and Irvin Garcia each got into the end zone in the second half from seven and 12 yards out, respectively.

“We like all of our guys getting to play in a game when we have the opportunity, and they all did well and executed,” Leonard said. “We started them out in the third quarter, and were excited to see them get out there and do well.”

Isabella (7-2) travels to Keith High School on Nov. 3 for the Mustangs final game of the 2023 football season.
