Verbena dropped its fourth consecutive game on Oct. 20 losing 36-8 on the road at Autaugaville High School. The Red Devils’ Lance Edwards rushed for 91 yards on 11 carries and a touchdown to lead Verbena in the game.

“I thought our guys played really hard, and we moved the ball well at times, but seemed to struggle finishing drives,” Verbena head coach Allen Brothers said. “Autaugaville utilized their speed on the outside and we have struggled at times to stop that. Our seniors have really worked hard in wanting to finish the season strong and this is a great learning experience for our young guys.”

Edwards connected with Tyler Kozak for the two-point conversion score after his rushing touchdown as well.

“At times we had eight-nine ninth graders on the field either offense or defense. We will continue to play hard and grow,” Brothers said. “Maplesville will be an extremely tough challenge for us this week. It has been a tough season, but our guys haven’t quit and I am proud of that.”

Verbena (1-7) hosts cross-county rival Maplesville High School in the Red Devils’ final region game of the season on Oct. 27. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
