Jemison falls to Selma in final region game

Jemison High School was tripped up 42-18 on the road at Selma High School in the Panthers final AHSAA Class 5A Region 3 game of the season. The Panthers finished their region slate without a win for the second time in three seasons.

The Panthers jumped out in front early 6-0 before Selma took the lead 16-6 in the second quarter. In the second, Jemison’s Chaz Melton ripped off a 40-yard rushing touchdown to cut the lead to 16-12, but Selma extended its lead later in the quarter to hold the 28-12 lead at halftime.

Melton ran for 117 yards on 19 carries.

In the second half, Selma continued to fire on all cylinders going up 36-12 before Jemison quarterback Luke Gann found Kintre Jackson for a 35-yard touchdown pass to cut into the lead, but Selma hung on late for the win.

Gann was 8-for-18 passing for 89 yards, two touchdowns and three interceptions. Jackson caught three passes for 68 yards and two touchdowns.

A.J. Ford led the Panthers’ defense in tackles with 10.

Jemison (1-7) hosts Beauregard High School on Oct. 27 for its next game with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
