In arguably the most exciting game in all of AHSAA football this season happened between Billingsley and Central-Hayneville high schools on Oct. 6. Central outlasted the Bears 78-72 in four overtimes to earn the win, and Billingsley quarterback Landon Jones did in his power to help the Bears pull out the win.

Jones accounted for nine of the Bears 10 touchdowns in the game — six through the air and three on the ground. He was 19-for-30 for 266 yards and the six touchdown passes, and added a 108-yard on 17 carries with three touchdowns performance on the ground to his totals.

Jones also helped convert six two-point conversions in the game, three with his legs and three with his arm.

Honorable mention: Nehemiah McCary, Maplesville High School

The standout player for Maplesville on the offensive side of the ball against Autaugaville was eighth grader Nehemiah McCary who is starting to become the featured back in the stable of running backs at the Red Devils disposal.

McCary ran for 162 yards on 13 carries, a 12.5 yards per carry average, and two touchdowns. The effort put McCary over 500 rushing yards for the season, 562 to be exact, in just six games.
