Tigers winning streak snapped to Ben Russell

Chilton County High School’s two-game winning streak was snapped on Oct. 6 losing 50-7 to Benjamin Russell High School.

The Tigers were pounced on early and often by Benjamin Russell as the Wildcats posted two touchdowns in each of the opening quarters to lead 29-0 at halftime.

CCHS put together a lengthy drive in the fourth quarter while trailing 50-0 to withstand the shutout as quarterback Logan Coppedge found Luke Moatts for a 26-yard touchdown connection.

Coppedge was 6-for-18 for 85 yards, one interception and one touchdown. Running back D.J. Jackson was the only Tigers player over 100 total yards with 123 — 98 on the ground and 25 receiving.

D.J. Caffey and Nyzaiah Dejarnett (#25) led the Tigers’ defense with 15 tackles each, with three of Dejarnett’s tackles coming for a loss. Justin Godwin and Cadyn Tinsley were the other CCHS defenders with over 10 tackles with 11 each.

The Tigers (3-4) are 1-3 in AHSAA Class 6A Region 3 play with two more region games left on their schedule.

CCHS is back in action on Oct. 13 traveling to Homewood High School for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
