Billingsley falls in overtime thriller to Hayneville

Billingsley High School was in an instant classic with Central High School, Hayneville on Oct 6 that saw four overtime periods. In the end, Hayneville came out on top 78-72 after the extended game.

Many of the Bears piled the stat sheet including quarterback Landon Jones who threw for six touchdown passes on 19-for-30 passing for 266 yards. Jones completed a touchdown pass to four different Billingsley receivers — two each to Kyle Boice and Javaris Livingston and one to Derriet Moore and Nathan Gilmore.

Boice caught seven passes for 126 yards and Gilmore caught seven passes for 87 yards.

Jones also got into the end zone three times on the ground and ran for 108 yards on 17 carries.

Kaden Cotton was the featured running back for the Bears going for 93 yards on 14 carries and one touchdown.

In the end, Billingsley piled up 486 total yards.

Gilmore led the Bears’ defense with eight tackles, followed by the trio of Shamarion Massey, Danny Boice and Jones with seven tackles each.

Billingsley (2-4) will travel to neighboring-county rival Maplesville High School on Oct. 13 for their next AHSAA Class 1A Region 4 matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
