Logan Coppedge is this week’s athlete of the week for his performance against Calera High School on Sept. 22. The Chilton County High School sophomore quarterback put together arguably his best game as a starter for the Tigers putting together a methodical and poised game to earn the 37-3 homecoming win.

Coppedge had his most completions in a game this season going 20-for-28, a 71% completion rate, and threw for 163 yards. He completed three touchdowns to three different receivers in the game — Hunter Ousley, D.J. Jackson and Jordan Simon, to get everyone involved in the offense.

Coppedge was the catalyst in CCHS earning its first Class 6A win since rejoining the classification in 2020.

Honorable mentions: Johnathon Wilson and Darrin Elliot, Maplesville High School

After a 0-2 start to the season, Maplesville High School has put together three blowout wins and been spurred on by tremendous defensive performances. The Red Devils’ defense is allowing just 13 points over the last three weeks and Maplesville is out scoring its opponents 147-13 during that span.

On Sept. 22, Johnathon Wilson and Darrin Elliot were the leaders of the defense that held a shutout until the waning seconds of the game over Calhoun High School. While Wilson grabbed four catches for 93 yards and a touchdown on offense, he also contributed greatly on defense hauling in two interceptions to stop Calhoun drives.

While Wilson controlled the backend of the defense, Elliot wreaked havoc up front piling up six and a half tackles and three sacks. Maplesville is now 3-2 on the season heading into their bye week on Sept. 29.
