Chilton County High School fell on the road at Helena High School 37-10 on Sept. 15 to the unbeaten Huskies. The Tigers’ D.J. Jackson got into the end zone on a 10-yard run and ran for 75 yards on 17 carries for CCHS. Senior tight end Hunter Ousley caught six passes for 82 yards to lead the Tigers through the air.
“The scoreboard did not turn out the way we wanted it to, but we are a young team that is improving week to week,” CCHS coach Marvin Morton said. “We start 10 freshmen or sophomores, and those guys are building experience as the season goes on. We are taking those positive plays and building off of that. I have been impressed with their will to not give up and playing hard.”
CCHS kicker Jorge Castillo converted a 30-yard field goal in the game as well. D.J. Caffee was a standout for the Tigers’ defense piling up 24 tackles, two for a loss, and a sack. Ricardo Parker added a sack as well to move his total to five through the first four games of the season.
In their next game on Sept. 22, the Tigers will welcome in 0-4 Calera for their homecoming and look to capture that elusive AHSAA Class 6A win that has eluded them since reclassification.
“With a young team like we have we really focus on winning each play, winning the drive, winning the quarter and then ultimately winning the game,” Morton said. “Looking at it from that point of view, we will get back into it looking at film tomorrow and having a good week of practice. The guys are still motivated and ready to come in and get better, and we hope to show those improvements come Friday night (against Calera).”
Kickoff for the Tigers’ 2023 homecoming game with Calera is scheduled for 7 p.m.
