Jemison High School dropped its third consecutive game after a 21-7 loss to Shelby County High School on Sept. 15 and fell to 0-2 in AHSAA Class 5A Region 3 play.

Shelby County capitalized on three Panthers’ turnovers and turned them into points immediately including a 34-yard fumble return for a touchdown that opened the scoring in the second quarter. SCHS doubled its lead later in the quarter returning an interception for a touchdown to make it 14-0 at halftime as Jemison celebrated and announced its 2023 homecoming court.

Jemison fought back in the second half as quarterback Luke Gann found Kintre Jackson for a touchdown pass to cut the lead in half at 14-7 early in the fourth quarter. However, the second pick six by Shelby County a few minutes later was the final blow to the Panthers.

Jemison (1-3) looks to rejuvenate itself next week as it takes its bye week on Sept. 22. The Panthers will be in action next on Sept. 29 traveling to Montevallo High School for a non-region matchup.
