Isabella High School scored early and often in its Sept. 15 matchup with Central of Coosa County High School and powered to a 63-0 win.

After Braxton Mims posted a short touchdown run to open the scoring early in the first quarter, Isabella quarterback Eli Kendrick accounted for the next five touchdowns for the Mustangs to put them on top comfortably 43-0 at halftime.

“He is just older, and he does a great job leading our offense,” Isabella head coach Tate Leonard said. “It is just another year in the system that he is getting to play, and we are certainly letting him use his legs a little more this year.”

Kendrick had touchdown runs of 17 and 11 yards in the first half, and found Tyler Mims for two long touchdowns of 62 and 25 yards. Kendrick ran for 91 yards in the game.

Tyler Mims led the team in receiving with five catches for 126 yards and the two scores. Kendrick was 8-for-11 for 183 yards passing and three touchdowns, his last scoring toss a 15-yard score to Austin Porter.

The Mustangs responded after a setback one week before in their AHSAA Class 2A Region 4 opener to get back to 1-1 in the region, and did so with 477 yards of total offense.

Javarius Craig ran for three touchdowns in the second half for the Mustangs to ice the game away.

“We are dealing with some injuries, and we have had a lot of younger guys step up and some other guys moving into different positions step up and I am really proud of them,” Leonard said. “Really good execution, and we got back to playing the kind of football we want to play with relentless effort and getting after it.”

Isabella (2-1) continues in region play in its next matchup traveling to Fayetteville High School on Sept. 22 at 7 p.m.
