The Thorsby High School offensive line is this week’s athletes of the week after their performance against Isabella High School on Sept. 8.

The Rebels offensive line, which consists of Zander Vernon, Maddox Woodall J.T. Green, Jalen Price and Ryne Jones powered the Rebels in the highest scoring game between the two schools in the series’ history.

While Isabella outgained Thorsby overall, it was the rushing differential that was the difference in the game. The Rebels outgained the Mustangs on the ground 291 to 184 and were led by quarterback Grayson McManus with 117 yards on 19 rushes and three touchdowns.

Coden Cummings was also effective behind the line running for 109 yards and two touchdowns, and Nate Thomas had 65 yards on seven carries.

The Rebels “jumbo package” was also extremely effective against Isabella as the offense shifted into a more power set and brought in additional linemen to get more of a push at the line of scrimmage.

“They have really bought into that (jumbo) package, and they like it,” Thorsby head coach Daryl Davis said. “They have a lot of confidence running that offense … We call it nasty. You just get foot to foot, and you just roll them out. We talked about their body language and hustling to the line of scrimmage, and they did a great job with all of that. I love that kind of football. Some people do not like it, but I love it.”

The jumbo package brings in Braden Chapman, Malcolm Lezama and N’Ky Nunn who swap out with the starting guards to beef up the front line for the Rebels in short yardage situations. The package was also used effectively at the end of the game as Thorsby controlled the final five minutes of the game clock on offense and ran the time down.
