Chilton County High School’s D.J. Jackson is this week’s athlete of the week after his performance against Jemison High School on Aug. 31 led the Tigers to victory.

Down 21-7 just before halftime, Jackson and the Tigers answered with 34 consecutive points to put away Jemison 41-21 on the road. The Tigers got Jackson involved in the game plan early and often with him running the ball and catching it out of the backfield.

In only his second game as a Tiger, Jackson accounted for over 200 yards of offense by himself in both the running and passing game. Jackson received 14 carries and turned that into 147 yards rushing and three touchdowns, one in the first half and two in the comeback in the second half.

Jackson’s ability to make plays in the passing game out of the backfield spurred on the Chilton County comeback as he caught a pass from 25 yards out on fourth down to tie the game at 21 after halftime. He pulled down four catches for 63 yards and a touchdown in the game.

Honorable mention: Eli Kendrick, Isabella High School

The Isabella High School Mustangs and senior quarterback Eli Kendrick opened their 2023 schedule on Sept. 1 with a resounding 34-14 win over Maplesville High School. While the Mustangs’ defense kept Maplesville out of sync all night, it was Kendrick on offense who shined the brightest to get Isabella started off on the right foot.

The senior was 7-for-16 for 165 yards passing including a long 89-yard touchdown connection with Dre’Von Lee just a few minutes into the game. He added 51 rushing yards on 10 carries and two touchdowns on the ground.
