Alabama Power plans to temporarily lower Lake Mitchell to give residents on the lake a chance to do shoreline maintenance. Any building along the shoreline still requires a permit. The drawdown begins Sept. 25-27 and is fully down from normal elevation of 312 ft to 308-309 ft by the 28th. They will begin to fill on Oct. 9 and the lake should be full again by Oct. 11. If any residents need to do any clean up or weed pulling around their shoreline this is the perfect time.

Keeping our shoreline clean of invasive weeds and trash is important to all who enjoy lake life. Our fall lake cleanup is Oct. 7. Since the lake will still be in drawdown some residents may not be able to get their boats out to clean the lake. Area representatives have trash bags available for those who wish to do shoreline cleanup around their area. Any trash collected should be bagged in the bags provided by Alabama Power and taken to Higgins Ferry where a dump truck will be provided for collection.
