The Jemison City Council unanimously approved resolution 08-07-23R that will benefit the Jemison Fire Department for the foreseeable future. The resolution approved a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance for Firefighters Grant that will split the funds in a 95%/5% fashion.

The grant awarded is for $137,380, and Jemison will receive $130,838.10 from federal funds and match the other $6,541.90. The approval was to accept the grant and pay the matching portion.

The grant will be used for 16 self-contained breathing apparatuses, or air packs, for the Jemison Fire Department. The new air packs will allow the city to be compliant with the newest National Fire Protection Association standards for the next ten years.

The council unanimously approved to nominate Rick Lawrence as a member of the Chilton County Board of Equalization. The board centers around making sure property and land is being properly valued and to help resolve any discrepancies there may be.

The council also unanimously approved a $10,000 donation to Jemison High School to support grounds improvements around Panther Stadium. The school has recently paved the walking path around the stadium and made repairs on the press box and the visiting side bleachers.
