The Chilton County Humane Society, in partnership with The Wellness Group and Starwood II Farm, is planning a family-friendly, community “Howloween” Festival for October to be held at Starwood II Farm in Jemison. The event is being hosted to help supplement the needed funds to provide for the animals and is asking the community for their assistance in sponsorship and vendors.

“It is a first-year event, but we are hoping to raise at least five thousand dollars,” Humane Society Board Member Katherine Reece said. “With the help of sponsors, vendors and the items we will be selling, that should be doable.”

Currently, the Chilton County Commission gives $2,500 to the organization monthly but needs such as animal medication, utility bills and payroll ranges around $23,000 a month.

“Every animal brought into the shelter receives vaccinations,” said Reece. “If it’s a puppy they may receive three vaccinations if they aren’t adopted or rescued before the series is complete. They are also dewormed and given flea treatments and any other medication they may need. Many of the stray dogs and cats who come in have issues from living wild and not being cared for.”

The Humane Society is asking community businesses for their assistance in sponsoring the Howloween Festival to help raise some of the needed funds. Sponsorship levels range from $50-$350 and includes recognition, t-shirt(s) and a 10×10 booth space at the event.

Booth spaces are available for $25 and $125 for food vendors. All fees are due by Sept. 1 and may be mailed to the Humane Society or paid via Paypal at chiltonhumane.paypal@gmail.com.

“This is a thrilling event that is coming up,” said Reece. “It will pay for medical supplies, vaccinations, medications, preventative treatments and ensure the animals receive the necessary medical attention to lead healthy and happy lives.”

Howloween will be held Oct. 21 from 11:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. at Starwood II Farm, 15549 County Road 42, Jemison.
