Billingsley High School’s Ada Willis is this week’s athlete of the week after throwing a no hitter in the Bears 5-0 win over Dallas County High School on April 13. Willis, who has become a reliable option in the circle this season along with Sadie Primm, threw all seven innings and allowed no hits, no runs and walked just two batters. Willis struck out a season high 14 hitters in the win.

Willis’ performance on April 13 against Dallas County went completely different from her first start against the school on March 7. Willis was tagged for three runs early and lasted just two and two-thirds innings, but she flipped the script in the second matchup with her best performance of the season. Willis added a 2-for-3 effort at the plate with a double, RBI and walk to go with her no hitter.

Willis recorded a hit in four of Billingsley’s five games between April 11-20, and reached base safely in all five with a walk on April 19 against Isabella High School. Willis picked up nine strikeouts on April 11 against Verbena High School, and three strikeouts and a double on April 18 against Maplesville.

Honorable mention: Makinley Turner, Thorsby High School

Thorsby’s ace Makinley Turner recorded her fourth-straight game with at least 10 strikeouts on April 18 against B.B. Comer High School. Turner had 12 strikeouts against Comer in an AHSAA Class 2A Area 6 matchup. She had 15 strikeouts against Fayetteville High School on April 11 in another area matchup for the Rebels between April 11-20.

Eleven strikeouts against Jemison High School on April 17 has her streak at four games. Thorsby has won all four games during Turner’s current streak.

Honorable mention: Laci Cook, Maplesville High School

The hottest hitter in the county this week was Laci Cook of Maplesville who went a combined 7-for-12 with two home runs and nine RBIs from April 11-20. Cook had back-to-back games with a home run on April 11 and 17, had three straight games with three RBIs. She knocked two doubles during the period as well
