One of my favorite sayings is that “life is not about perfection, it is about direction.” As your superintendent, the first step in moving in the right direction is to first determine where we want to go. Too many times the decisions regarding our system and our students have been made by a small group of people, or in some instances one person. However, the direction and the goals that we want to set for our schools should always be community-based.
With that in mind, our school system is looking forward to creating our strategic plan for the next several years. Every decision that we make as a system needs to be tied to our community’s strategic plan. This week, surveys were emailed to every employee in our system asking them to provide feedback on what we do well and what we can do better. The opportunity was given to leave comments and concerns. I have personally read every one of these survey comments and I am committed to addressing these concerns either through action, explanation, or policy recommendation.
We have also posted a link on our website (chiltonboe.com) and our Facebook page (Chilton County School District) that allows community members to provide feedback. This information is vital to our plans. We value every opinion and we need your input. To emphasize this our system will be holding town hall meetings in each of our six school communities. I am personally committed to attending each of these meetings to show how invested I am in including you, our citizens, in this process. The schedule for these meetings (each of which is from 5-6:30 p.m.) is as follows:
April 19 Maplesville High School
April 20 Jemison Schools (at Jemison High School)
April 24 Thorsby High School
April 27 Clanton Schools (at Chilton County High School)
May 15 Isabella High School
May 18 Verbena High School
These meetings are open to anyone and will provide you with the opportunity to be heard regarding the future of our school system. I look forward to seeing, and more importantly, hearing from you in the near future.
