Road improvements are being planned in Jemison, following a vote by the Jemison City Council on April 3.

The council unanimously approved borrowing $460,000 from Marion Bank for “qualified municipal purposes” with Mayor Eddie Reed and City Clerk Vicki Potts handling the details

City Administrator Shannon Welch said the funds would be used for road improvements for County Road 71 and County Road 44. A timeline for the project in unknown at this time.

Another project is moving closer to reality as the council unanimously approved an agreement with CDG for construction engineering and inspection services for the Old Town streetscape improvements.

The project will replace sidewalks and hand railings along Main Street from Church Street to Padgett Lane as well as add a curbed island, trees, marked parking spots and historic-styled lighting.

The motion approved spending up to $124,442.36 for the services.

Reed thanked all of those who had been working on this project.

“This is exciting,” Councilman Rex Bittle said of getting the project on step closer to reality.
