While springtime breeds storms and allergies, it also brings about garden beds across Chilton County. The Chilton County Master Gardeners Association and Peach Outdoor are helping residents get geared up for the season.

Peach Outdoor is hosting its third annual Spring Garden Event on April 8 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The event will feature door prizes, drinks and BBQ. Peach Outdoor said they host the event to help residents get their gardens together with the time to plant just around the corner. Everything is free for those who come out to the event.

The Master Gardeners Association president Jerry Farmer will be on hand to give tips to residents about the best way to plant their garden and encourage people to join the Master Gardeners Association.

“For the past three years, Peach Outdoor has put on the event, and they like for the Master Gardeners to be there to talk about gardening, answer questions and just promote horticulture,” Master Gardeners board member Pat Farmer said. “It is the perfect time (of the year) to have this, and we have kits for soil samples.”

Getting a soil sample is the most important thing a gardener should do while preparing their garden for plants. The soil sample can help critique what kind of soil is needed based on what a gardener is planting in it, and adjustments can be made to have the best results.

David Gentry, who works at Peach Outdoor, said his mother is a member of the Master Gardeners Association. He believes the Master Gardeners program is a big part of the growth of gardening in Chilton County and advancing horticulture in the communities.

“They are very friendly people, they are very kind, and they are very knowledgeable,” Gentry said. “They could tell you how to grow just about anything you want to grow.”

Peach Outdoor is located at 1940 Big M Blvd in Clanton.
