The Clanton City Council will consider approving a preliminary ABC special event license user agreement for The Bearded Peach during its March 27 meeting.

The special event license would allow the company to sell alcoholic beverages within a designated area at Peach Jam Jubilee in June. Those purchasing drinks would have to stay in the designated area until they were finished, Mayor Jeff Mims said during a March 23 work session. Alcoholic beverages have been available in the Peach Jam VIP tent in previous years. City Clerk Jonathan Seale explained the special event license would be good for this event only.

Possible property development and marketing of city owned properties were also discussed at the meeting. Mims gave the council updates on efforts to sell more property and what had sold. Discussions have started for some property the city owns near the intersection of Highway 31 and Highway 22. The Showroom Liquidators building downtown has sold, and the developer is set to begin renovations. Mims said the majority of the properties that had previously been declared as surplus have been sold.

Also on the agenda for the March 27 meeting is renewing appointments to the Chilton County Airport Authority, adopting the revised City of Clanton Classification pay plan, which includes a two percent salary increase for employees and declaring miscellaneous items as surplus.
