Maplesville, Billingsley get area wins in weeks baseball action

Several Chilton County area high school baseball teams jumped into their respective area schedules the week of March 14-20. Both Billingsley and Maplesville high schools got off to winning starts in AHSAA Class 1A Area 6 play.
Maplesville High School
Maplesville throttled Autaugaville 18-2 on the road on March 16 to pick its first area win of the season. The Red Devils paired that with a 16-0 win over Autaugaville on March 13 to move to 2-0 in area play.
The Red Devils stayed in area play on March 18 beating Verbena 13-9 and are 3-0 in AHSAA Class 1A Area 6 play so far this season.
Verbena High School
Before the doubleheader on March 20 against Maplesville, Verbena took down Class 6A Park Crossing High School 11-9 on March 15. Johnathan Marino, Jarod Quinn, Alan Martinez and Ethan Hand all recorded two hits. Quinn was the standout Red Devil’s player with three RBIs and a home run.
Verbena faced Billingsley the next day and fell 8-2 in their first area game of the season.
Billingsley High School
The Bears lone game of the week was its 8-2 victory over Verbena in its first area game of the 2023 season. Kyle Boice, Landon Jones and Nathan Gilmore all had two hits, and all but one Bears hitters had a hit. Billingsley piled up 12 hits as a team.
Chilton County High School
The Tigers got their week started with a 3-0 win over Marbury High School on March 14 as CCHS took advantage of a plethora of errors by the visitors.
CCHS traveled to Montevallo High School on March 16 and fell 7-3. Colton Brock and J.D. Terrell collected two hits each with one of Brock’s going for a double. The game entered the bottom of the sixth inning tied at three, but Montevallo scored four runs in the frame to take the lead and the eventual win.
Jemison High School
The Panthers had a soggy week where action was dampened by inclement weather with three games canceled March 17-18. However, Jemison did pick up a win on March 14 with a resounding 20-0 thumping of Dallas County High School. London Colton, Alex Bice and Hunter Scott had two hits each, and Bice and Colton each had two RBIs.
Tyler Porter got the start on the mound for Jemison. He threw a no hitter in five innings giving up no hits and no walks, while striking out nine hitters.
Jemison won 5-1 over Thorsby High School on March 20 led by Porter again on the mound. Porter threw a complete game of seven innings and gave up four hits, one unearned run and struck out five hitters.
Thorsby High School
The Rebels were dampened by rain as well having their March 18 doubleheader canceled. Thorsby did get their March 16 game against Prattville Christian Academy in, but fell 10-2 on the road. Remington Taylor was 1-for-3 with an RBI for the Rebels.
The Rebels postponed their doubleheader from March 18 to March 20 with Jemison and Sylacauga. The Rebels lost game one to Jemison 5-1, and game two to Sylacauga 13-0. Christopher Buendtner got the lone RBI for the Rebels in the two games.
Isabella High School
The Mustangs struggled in their first two AHSAA Class 2A Area 6 games of the season on March 16 and 18 against Reeltown High School. Isabella lost 12-2 on March 16 where Colton Conway and Richard Henderson had the two hits the Mustangs earned. March 18 saw Isabella fall 16-0 and Conway and Henderson were joined by Dawson Edwards with hits in the game.
