The late Roy Wood’s name has been associated with local art for years.

Now, some of his work will be on display and available for purchase during the Roy Wood Art Show and Sale beginning Feb. 24 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The show is being held by the Chilton County Arts Council and River Bank & Trust at The Gallery of 5th, 500 Fifth Avenue North in Clanton.

“I am so grateful for the generosity of the family,” Melinda Smith, president of the Chilton County Arts Council, said. “He was a long-time supporter of the Chilton County Arts Council.”

Smith said she connected with the family while they were trying to sell Wood’s former house, after his brother died recently.

“The house is still full of artwork,” Smith said.

A portion of the collection will be on display at the event with a number of the paintings available for sale. Cash and check will be accepted. Funds from the sale will benefit the arts council.

“The family picked out the ones they wanted, (so) some of these do belong to family members and they are going to let us display them,” Smith said.

These items will be marked with NSF meaning not for sale.

The artwork will remain on display through March 3 from 11 a.m. to. 2 p.m. each day.

Paintings that have been purchased will be available for pickup the afternoon of March 3 or the morning of March 4.
