Construction on the Family Dollar/ Dollar Tree in Maplesville is making progress.

The frame that was begun in December has been completed, and construction continues.

The former site of a fireworks stand, the property on Highway 22 now shows the shell of the 10,500-square-foot building, which will eventually bring a Family Dollar/ Dollar Tree to town.

Once complete, the building will be leased to the retail companies.

Developer Murray Farmer of Farmer & Associates Inc. previously estimated that the stores would open on Feb. 1, 2023. However, at the time, construction was estimated to be complete by the end of October.

β€œI think it is going to be exciting,” Farmer said in an August interview. β€œIt is going to create about 20 direct jobs in the community, and about 60 in total with the trickle effects (in) economics.”
