Clanton Elementary School kindergarten student Everlie Harrison is a finalist in the national Back-to-School Design Contest, sponsored by Mott’s and Crayola.

Everlie said she was happy to be one of the six finalists picked by the companies.

“This was kind of a shock” because it was a national company holding the contest, Everlie’s mom Julie Harrison said.

“We are excited,” Julie Harrison said. “We are very excited.”

Now, her artwork is in the voting round for people to vote on. Votes can be made daily to help Everlie’s work win. Visit mottsdesigncontest.com to vote each day between now and Nov. 15.

Entries in the contest designed new packaging for apple juice or applesauce. Everlie’s entry is in the applesauce category.

The picture features an apple, tree and a rainbow. Everlie used a tempera paint stick to create the picture.

Julie Harrison said she asked Everlie if she wanted to be in the contest.

“Normally, I’ll sit down and help … this one she did all on her own,” Julie Harrison said.

The winner of the contest will be announced on Nov. 16.
