The Humane Society of Chilton County is offering a discount on animal adoptions through Sept. 30.

Discounted prices are available on dogs and cats that are seven months old or older.

Tracie Robitaille, president of the Humane Society of Chilton County, said dogs are $75 and cats are $10, compared to the usual cost of $150 and $75.

“We are overcrowded,” Robitaille said. “To get some out the door that would prevent us from having to put down for space.”

In August, 146 pets came into the shelter.

The adoption process can be started online at chiltoncountyhumanesociety.org or at the animal shelter, 139 Shade Tree Drive in Clanton.

Each adoptable animal is current on its shots, has also been spayed or neutered, has been dewormed and been given flea treatment. The shelter also offers a free veterinarian visit to a Chilton County veterinarian within three days of the adoption.

Robitaille encouraged people to come to the shelter and get to know the animals, so they can find one to adopt.

To apply to adopt an animal in person, residents will have to bring their driver’s license. A background check will be done as a part of the application process.

Those who already have a pet and are wanting to find them a friend, can bring the dog or cat to the shelter to see how they get along with a prospective new pet.

The Chilton County animal shelter is open Monday, Wednesday and Friday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the first and third Saturday of each month.
